Koch Associate Program

Media and Journalism Fellowship Partner Announcement

March 1, 2017

The Charles Koch Institute is excited to partner with a number of media outlets to form the year-long Media and Journalism Fellowship, which aims to teach the basics of objective journalism to promising writers, reporters, and multimedia professionals. Participating fellows will have the opportunity to develop and refine their journalistic skills by working full time in the industry at outlets such as Forbes, The Saturday Evening Post, and AllSides.com. In addition, fellows will receive mentorship and instruction from experienced media professionals, including Nancy Perry Graham (AARP The Magazine, Time Inc.), Deirdre Hughes (Yahoo, CNN), Eric Schurenberg (Inc., Money), John Stossel (Stossel, 20/20), and Rob Wallace (ABC cki_news).

Weekly classes will help participants explore and build their professional skills, refresh and expand their portfolios, and understand how a free press impacts creative professionals and society. As part of their foundational training, fellows will receive instruction from the Poynter Institute’s Kelly McBride on journalistic ethics and will complete Poynter’s Ethics, Plagiarism, and Copyright certification program. The fellowship also features three networking summits throughout the year. At the program’s conclusion, participants should have developed an understanding of the key role they can play in upholding truth, integrity, and respect for a diversity of ideas in this important institution.
